| On Thursday, a federal judge dismissed a Midwest Properties of Shawano, LLC adversary complaint case against several media organizations and Shawano Mayor Lorna Marquardt. The complaint was filed on November 22, in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court
in Delaware as part of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy
filing of SIST subsidiary Midwest Properties of Shawano, LLC.
The complaint faults Marquardt and other officials of conspiring against SIST businesses, to financially destroy them and “bring about the demise of SIST personnel.”
Defendants included in the complaint were: The Shawano Leader and its parent company, Wolf River Media, LLC, WLUK-TV
of Green Bay (FOX News affiliated) as well as parent company Lin Television Corp., and news reporter Lou Hillman; Young Broadcasting and WBAY-TV
of Green Bay; Journal Broadcast Group
of Green Bay; Gray Television Group and WSAW-TV
of Wausau; Scripps Media Inc. and WMAR-TV
of Baltimore, Maryland.
As written in the 88-page complaint, “these individuals and entities directed by their leader, Defendant Lorna Marquardt, embarked on a blatant and illegal discriminatory campaign against Plaintiff/Debtor on the basis of race and religion in violation of state and federal law.”
Delaware attorney Karl Hill, is representing the Shawano Leader and other media in the adversary complaint. Hill confirmed Thursday afternoon that Federal Judge Kevin Carey ruled the complaint should be dismissed. Carey did not discuss the merits of the complaint, only that the case should be dismissed because the underlying bankruptcy case had been dismissed.
For SIST this is another blow in their pursuit of justice.
